Joe Baxter

Regarded by many of his fans and musical contemporaries as one of Oklahoma’s best songwriters, Oklahoma City musician Joe Baxter has been a fixture in the Oklahoma music scene for a long time. Joe came of age in the Country Rock and Rock & Roll culture of the early 1970’s, and was influenced throughout the years by the great singer songwriters such as John Prine, Guy Clark, John Hiatt, James McMurtry, Steve Earle and Townes VanZandt, Joe is a prolific writer, with eleven original albums from 1994 to 2019. After fronting a working rock band for fifteen years, in 2005, Joe decided to shift his talents to acoustic music, and began hanging out in the Red Dirt music crowd at festivals and venues in Stillwater, Tulsa, Tahlequah and Oklahoma City. Today, he plays bluegrass, roots, red dirt and original acoustic music at every opportunity. Joe continues to write and record and is currently working on a new album. Joe’s duet partner Andrea MacMullin is a professional violinist who has worked with the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra and several other distinguished classical music ensembles. Andrea joined up with Joe’s OKC rock band, The Regular Joes in 1997 and played shows with the band for several years. After moving west and living in the Seattle area for some years, she made the move back home to Tulsa, and began doing occasional acoustic shows with Joe Baxter and various friends. Andrea is featured on several of Joe’s acoustic albums. Today, Joe coordinates weekly and monthly benefit music programs for the Route #66 landmark Round Barn in Arcadia. He plays weekly Saturday shows at the Barn with his labor-of-love bluegrass band, The Round Barn Ramblers. He has been a musical guest at the Bob Childers Red Dirt Gypsy Cafe, and the Tom Skinner Skyline Music Festival, and was the winner of the Red Dirt Relief Fund’s Gypsy Cafe Songwriter’s Contest in 2019. Joe writes a weekly “Ramblin’ Joe” column for the Luther Register online newspaper. Joe and Andrea team up regularly for duets and band shows featuring Joe’s original music, and they plan to stay busy playing various venues throughout the state in the upcoming months.
